The program, which has resulted in approximately 100,000 migrants leaving Texas, has stretched budgets and caused havoc in their destination cities such as the Big Apple, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles. Texas taxpayers are responsible for more than 99% of the costs, while voluntary donations from local supporters of the program have raised approximately $460,000, according to the office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
Under the program, migrants are bused from Texas at no out-of-pocket cost to themselves. This comes as millions of illegal migrants have entered the country since President Biden took office, with over 300,000 emerging in December 2023 alone, as per records. In New York City, migrants have been placed in shelters at various locations, including the Roosevelt Hotel, Floyd Bennet Field, and a tent city on Randall's Island.
