President Biden's culinary choices came under fire after a less-than-satisfactory "Detroit-style" pizza was served on Air Force One on Thursday, following his campaign trip to Michigan.

The pizza, which was supposed to represent the Motor City's signature deep-dish, rectangular pizza, was criticized for its lack of mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce.

Bloomberg White House reporter Josh Wingrove shared a picture of the pizza on social media, following Biden's appearance with auto union workers in the swing state. "The Air Force One dinner tonight after the Michigan trip: Detroit-style pizza," Wingrove posted. However, the reporter seemed to only nibble at the edges before capturing the image.

Social media users were quick to criticize the pizza, with one user, @umichvoter, suggesting that Biden was intentionally trying to lose Michigan. Others questioned the presence of sesame seeds on the charred crust. One user even compared the pizza to the devastating Italian volcano, Vesuvius, while others called the pizza "disgraceful" and suggested that it needed to be reworked, much like Biden's controversial legislative package, "Build Back Better."

The culinary debacle occurred after Biden, 81, celebrated his re-election endorsement by the United Auto Workers in Warren, Michigan, a city located approximately 15 miles north of Detroit. However, a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll released on Wednesday indicated that Biden trails behind GOP front-runner and former President Donald Trump by five points in Michigan. Trump had previously lost the state in 2020 but won in 2016.

The poll also showed Trump leading Biden by single digits in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, all states that Biden had won in the previous election. Michigan's large Arab American population, many of whom oppose Biden's administration's support of Israel in its conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, could prove to be a significant hurdle for Biden's campaign.

During Biden's visit, protesters gathered outside the union event, chanting slogans against the president. An "Abandon Biden" campaign also held an event in December in Dearborn, Michigan, urging Muslim Americans not to vote for Biden in the general election.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has reportedly killed approximately 9,000 Hamas terrorists, which is estimated to be around a third of its fighting force, according to US intelligence. IDF officials have stated that for every Hamas jihadist killed, roughly two civilians have been killed in the densely populated region, often used as "human shields" by the terrorist group.

The White House did not disclose Biden's Michigan schedule, and press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to comment on whether the decision was made to avoid confrontation with Arab American residents in the state. Jean-Pierre stated that Biden has met with Americans with varying opinions about the Israel-Hamas conflict and is in regular contact with Muslim and Arab American leaders in Michigan and across the country.

Jean-Pierre also announced that Biden administration officials will visit Michigan later this month to "hear directly from community leaders on a range of issues that are important to them and their families, including the conflict of Israel and Gaza."
