In a recent development in the federal weapons case against Hunter Biden, the eldest son of President Joe Biden, the presiding judge has mandated the public release of search warrants used in two separate investigations against him.

Delaware US District Judge Maryellen Norieka approved a request on Friday to unseal four search warrants employed in Special Counsel David Weiss's probe into allegations of illegal firearm possession and tax fraud against the 53-year-old.

These warrants are anticipated to provide insight into the legal grounds federal authorities had for confiscating Biden's electronic devices and the evidence used to construct the two criminal cases against him.

The warrants were mentioned in court documents earlier this month by Weiss's office as it contested Hunter's attempt to dismiss the charges. This led an independent journalist to request their unsealing. Neither Biden's defense team nor Weiss's office raised objections to the records being unsealed. The timeline for when the documents will be available remains unclear.

Two of the warrants, dated August 29, 2019, and July 10, 2020, were procured by tax authorities and the FBI to investigate Hunter Biden's Apple iCloud account. A third search warrant was obtained on December 13, 2019, to scrutinize the infamous laptop of the first son.

The fourth warrant, obtained on December 4 of the previous year, was used to gather electronic evidence related to the gun case, nearly three months after the indictment against Biden was made public.

Hunter Biden is facing three felony charges related to firearms for allegedly lying about his drug addiction when he purchased a firearm five years ago. Additionally, he was charged with multiple counts in Los Angeles last month for allegedly evading $1.4 million in federal taxes between 2016 and 2019.

The charges against Biden were brought after an unexpected failure of a no-jail plea deal during a court hearing in July.

In December, Biden's lawyers requested Judge Noreika to dismiss the gun charges against him, arguing that the prosecution violated a previous agreement between Biden and federal authorities.

In a sharp rebuttal on January 16, Weiss's office maintained that their case against Biden, who they allege was under the influence of drugs when he acquired his gun and lied about it on a background check form, was robust. They cited the discovery of cocaine residue on the pouch of the Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver, which was discarded in a trash can behind a Delaware grocery store by Biden's sister-in-law and former lover, Hallie Biden, in October 2018.

"Investigators literally found drugs on the pouch where the defendant had kept his gun," the prosecutors stated.

In his 2021 memoir "Beautiful Things," Hunter admitted to being addicted to crack cocaine at the time of the firearm incident, a fact highlighted by the prosecutors.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice declined to comment on Monday, and Biden's lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
