The host of the gathering, Jordan Willis, reportedly told family members that his friends "froze to death." However, the exact cause of their deaths remains unknown. The Kansas City Police Department has stated that the case is not being investigated as a homicide, and they do not anticipate releasing any additional information until the findings of the medical examiner are available.
The results of the men's toxicology reports are expected to take 6 to 8 weeks to process, and their full autopsy reports will not be released for another 10 to 12 weeks. Experts have suggested that a drug laced with fentanyl or a drug like K2, which can be mistaken for marijuana and cause an overheating sensation, may have contributed to their deaths. The autopsies have already been carried out, and two of the men have been cremated.

Willis' attorney, John Picerno, initially stated that there were only four men in the house that night, but later corrected himself, saying that a fifth man had watched the game with them. This fifth man, who has not been named, has hired a criminal defense attorney and claims that he was not the last person to see the men alive.
