In a recent revelation, it has been discovered that the former J6 House Select Committee erased over 100 encrypted files prior to the GOP lawmakers assuming the majority in the House.

This information was brought to light by an investigation led by the House Administration Committee's Oversight Subcommittee Chairman, Barry Loudermilk. According to sources who spoke to Fox Digital, the J6 committee was obligated to hand over these files to a new panel of GOP lawmakers following the shift in House majority to the Republican party. However, it appears that the committee deleted these files instead.

The sources further disclosed that the new panel was expecting to receive four terabytes of data. However, they only received approximately half of the anticipated files. It was determined that these files were deleted on January 1, 2023, mere days before the House Select Committee Chair, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss), was mandated to transfer them to the new leadership.

A data intelligence team has since confirmed that all 117 files were deleted and encrypted before the transition. Fortunately, the team has managed to recover all the deleted files. Loudermilk, however, is seeking answers and passwords for the data.

Fox Digital obtained a letter from Loudermilk to Thompson concerning this issue. In the letter, Loudermilk states, "As you acknowledged in your July 7, 2023 letter, the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol (Select Committee) did not archive all Committee records as required by House Rules."

Loudermilk further elaborates in the letter that Thompson had "claimed that [he] turned over 4-terabytes of digital files, but the hard drives archived by the Select Committee with the Clerk of the House contain less than 3-terabytes of data."

The letter also reveals that the forensics team was able to recover the encrypted files and "found that most of the recovered files are password-protected, preventing [the team] from determining what they contain." Loudermilk has demanded that Thompson provide him with "a list of passwords for all password-protected files created by the Select Committee" to ensure proper archiving.

In a statement to Fox Digital, Loudermilk said, "It’s obvious that Pelosi’s Select Committee went to great lengths to prevent Americans from seeing certain documents produced in their investigation. It also appears that Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney intended to obstruct our Subcommittee by failing to preserve critical information and videos as required by House rules."
