In a recent post-fight press conference following UFC 297, Dana White, the President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), found himself in a heated exchange with a Canadian journalist.

The confrontation was sparked by the reporter's inquiry into the UFC's stance on free speech, particularly in relation to potentially homophobic and transphobic comments made by its fighters.

The journalist suggested that the UFC was allowing its fighters too much freedom in their public statements, which could potentially lead to harmful rhetoric. "You obviously give a long leash to your fighters about what they can say… you are getting into territory of homophobia, transphobia," the journalist asserted.

White, however, was quick to defend the organization's position. "I don’t give anybody a leash. A leash? Free speech," he retorted. He further emphasized his belief in the importance of free speech, stating, "To control what people say? Gonna tell people what to believe? I don’t f**king tell any other human being what to say, what to think. And there’s no leashes on any of them."

The UFC President continued to uphold the principle of free speech within the organization, asserting, "Free speech, brother. People can say whatever they want and they can believe whatever they want."

This confrontation comes in the wake of a verbal onslaught by middleweight titleholder Sean Strickland against Canadian reporters. Strickland, known for his controversial comments, did not hold back in his criticism.

"Here’s the thing about Bud light. Ten years ago, to be trans was what? A mental f-cking illness. And now, all of a sudden, people like you have f-cking weaseled your way into the world. You are an infection. You are the definition of weakness. Everything that is wrong with the world is because of f-cking YOU,” Strickland declared.

Strickland continued his tirade, expressing his disdain for the current societal discourse on gender and sexuality. He concluded his rant by pointing at the journalist and labeling him as the "enemy to our world."
