In a significant political development, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, a prominent Republican figure, has publicly endorsed former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential race.

This endorsement follows Trump's resounding victory in the Iowa caucus on Monday, where he secured a 30-point lead, as reported by The Associated Press.

Trump's commanding performance in the Hawkeye state saw him outpace Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who secured 21.2% of the votes, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley with 19.1%, and conservative entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who garnered 7.7% of the votes.

Speaking on Fox News with Sean Hannity, Cruz praised Trump's "dominating victory" and stressed the need for Republicans to rally around the former President to ensure success in the upcoming November elections.

"Last night was decisive. It was a dominating victory for Donald Trump," Cruz stated. "I'm a big believer in letting democracy play out. Well, last night it played out, and I've got to say Trump's victory was across the board. He won 51% of the vote, he won 98 of the counties — congratulations to President Trump on that dominating victory. And at this point, I believe this race is over. So I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for president of the United States."

Cruz further emphasized his commitment to supporting Trump, citing the need for unity within the Republican Party to counteract President Joe Biden's administration and its policies.

"I look forward to supporting him enthusiastically, because I think it's time for the Republican Party to unite, for us to come together, we've got to beat Joe Biden. We've got to beat this disastrous cultural Marxist agenda in the White House. We’ve got to retake the United States Senate, we’ve got to hold the House, we’ve got to come together and win, and with the results last night, the people have spoken. It’s time to move onward to victory in November," Cruz added.

Trump shared Cruz's endorsement on Truth Social, highlighting the senator's assertion that "this race is over."

Cruz's endorsement is the latest in a series of endorsements from Republican senators, including Marco Rubio of Florida, James Risch of Idaho, Mike Lee of Utah, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, John Barrasso of Wyoming, and Tom Cotton of Arkansas. With these endorsements, Trump now enjoys the support of approximately half of the Republican Senate delegation.

In the 2016 Iowa caucus, Cruz emerged victorious with 27.6% support, followed by Trump at 24.3% and Rubio at 23.1%, as per The Associated Press’s tabulations reported by The New York Times.

Looking ahead, the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire is set for Tuesday. Current polls from RealClearPolitics (RCP) show Trump leading by 13.2 points. Haley is polling closest to Trump with 31.3% support, followed by former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie at 11%, Ramaswamy at 6%, and DeSantis at 5.8%.

Both Christie and Ramaswamy have since withdrawn from the race, with Ramaswamy endorsing Trump after his fourth-place finish in the Iowa caucus.
