In a recent interview with "CBS Mornings," Nikki Haley, the Republican presidential candidate, expressed her determination to strengthen her campaign in New Hampshire, following her third-place finish in the Iowa caucuses.

Haley, who previously served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, has been campaigning in New Hampshire for nearly a year, adopting a direct approach with voters.

"We've been here for 11 months now campaigning, doing it the New Hampshire way, making sure that we answer every question, touch every hand, and be the last person to leave," Haley stated. She further emphasized her commitment to the campaign, saying, "We're going to book it this entire week to continue doing what we've done for 11 months, and it's paid off. We're a stone's throw away from Trump, and it's why I think we're going to be even stronger in New Hampshire."

As the Republican presidential primary in New Hampshire approaches on January 23, Haley and her Republican competitors are intensifying their efforts in the state. A CBS News poll conducted in December revealed that Haley is the leading alternative to former President Donald Trump among likely GOP primary voters in New Hampshire, with 29% supporting Haley compared to Trump's 44%.

Despite Haley's growing support, Trump continues to dominate the Republican field. He won the Iowa caucuses with 51% of the vote, marking the first time a GOP candidate has surpassed 50% in the state. Trump secured 20 of the 40 delegates at stake in the caucuses.

Haley, who finished closely behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the Iowa caucuses, remains optimistic about her campaign. "It's a marathon. It's not a sprint and we're taking it one step at a time," she said. "Iowa was very good to us, but we are super excited to be here in New Hampshire and go ahead and make this even stronger."

Looking ahead to the primary contests in New Hampshire and South Carolina on February 24, Haley described them as "two-person" races and positioned herself as a "new generational leader." She expressed her ambition to succeed Trump, saying, "We want to move forward so that he's no longer a part of the conversation, that we leave the chaos of the past and we move forward with the solutions of the future."

When asked about Trump's fitness for presidency, Haley avoided a direct answer but noted that "chaos follows him." She argued that the country cannot afford another four years of turmoil and emphasized her belief in the need for a new generational leader.

Haley also criticized both Trump and President Biden for their ages, suggesting that many Americans are seeking a leader who can offer "new solutions, no vendettas, no vengeance, no drama, just someone that's going to go in there and fight for them and give them results."

In a social media announcement, Haley declared that she would not participate in any future debates unless they are against Trump or Biden. "We've had five great debates in this campaign. Unfortunately, Donald Trump has ducked all of them. He has nowhere left to hide. The next debate I do will either be with Donald Trump or with Joe Biden. I look forward to it," Haley posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.
