Fani Willis, the District Attorney of Fulton County, Georgia, who is known for her charges against former President Donald Trump regarding election interference, has spoken out against allegations of an "improper" romantic relationship with a prosecutor.

Willis suggests that these accusations have been made due to their racial backgrounds.

Earlier this month, court documents alleged that Willis had hired special prosecutor Nathan Wade, her supposed romantic partner, to prosecute Trump. The documents also claimed that Willis had financially benefited from this relationship through extravagant vacations funded by the fees his firm received for the case.

Willis broke her silence on the matter during a speech at the Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta on Sunday. "They only attacked one," she stated. "First thing they say, ‘Oh, she’s gonna play the race card now.’ But no God, isn’t it them that’s playing the race card when they only question one," Willis questioned.

Despite the public scrutiny, Willis has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations involving her and Wade, who played a significant role in the indictment against Trump for election interference.

In her Sunday speech, Willis did not mention Wade by name but referred to him as "a great friend and a great lawyer."

Michael Roman, Trump’s co-defendant, accused Willis and Wade of having an "improper" and "clandestine" affair during the appointments for the 2020 election interference case. Roman, a former official on Trump’s 2020 campaign, argued in court last week that the case's integrity was compromised due to the alleged affair. He requested that the charges against him be dropped.

"The district attorney chose to appoint her romantic partner, who at all times relevant to this prosecution has been a married man," the court documents stated.

According to Fulton County records, Wade has received nearly $654,000 in legal fees since January 2022, an amount authorized by Willis. The court filing also demands that the entire district attorney's office, including Willis and Wade, be disqualified from prosecuting the case.

Willis pointed out on Sunday that John Floyd and Anna Green Cross, both white prosecutors assigned to the case, were not targeted. "Isn’t it them playing the race card when they constantly think I need someone from some other jurisdiction in some other state to tell me how to do a job I’ve been doing almost 30 years," Willis asked.

In August, Willis indicted Trump, who pleaded not guilty to charges related to allegedly attempting to subvert the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia, including violation of Georgia's anti-racketeering law. Roman, along with Trump, was charged with a racketeering charge as part of Willis’ case and was charged with seven felony counts last August.

The Georgia case is one of four pending against Trump; he also faces charges in New York City, Florida, and Washington, D.C.
