In a recent incident that has been largely overlooked by mainstream media, a transgender activist was involved in a school shooting in Iowa.

The shooter, identified as Dylan Butler, was found to have a social media presence that indicated his identification as "non-binary" and his involvement in transgender activism. As reported by RedState, the mainstream media seemed to cease reporting on the incident as soon as these details were revealed.

However, the narrative took a surprising turn when an NBC News reporter, Matt Lavietes, suggested that the real victims of this incident were the "LGBTQ" community. Lavietes reached out to Chaya Raichik, who manages the Libs of TikTok account that initially reported on Butler's background. Instead of expressing concern for the victims of the shooting, Lavietes appeared to be more worried about the potential harm to the "LGBTQ" community that could result from highlighting the shooter's transgender identity.

The question arises: can a group be considered "marginalized" when they are consistently prioritized over other demographics? The "LGBTQ" community receives a significant amount of attention and concern on a national level. For instance, just days before the Iowa shooting, a group of gay individuals in Seattle protested against a playground project to maintain their right to public nudity. This incident suggests that the term "marginalized" may not accurately describe the current status of the "LGBTQ" community.

Lavietes' approach to reporting on the incident has been criticized as biased. Raichik, in her succinct yet powerful response, pointed out that Lavietes' inclusion of "pronouns" in his bio suggests that he may be an activist posing as a journalist. This is not the first time Lavietes has taken this approach; he followed a similar narrative when reporting on a school shooting by a transgender individual at a Christian school in Nashville in early 2023.

Lavietes' focus on the potential harm to the "LGBTQ" community in the wake of a school shooting, rather than on the victims of the violence, has been described as sociopathic. Critics argue that his reporting, and that of his network, is flawed for prioritizing this angle over an honest and open discussion of the shooter's actions.
