The former rock musician, Theobald "Theo" Lengyel, 54, has been apprehended and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the suspected killing of his girlfriend, Alice "Alyx" Kamakaokalani Herrmann, 61.

The charges followed the discovery of human remains in a forested region in California, NBC News reported.

Herrmann had been missing since December 3, and her family reported her disappearance to the El Cerrito Police Department on December 12. The investigation was subsequently taken over by the Capitola Police Department, who swiftly identified Lengyel as a primary suspect.

In a statement released by the authorities, they noted, "Based on his actions, Theo Lengyel is a person of interest in Alice Hermann’s disappearance and has not cooperated with the police investigation." They further revealed that Lengyel had traveled from El Cerrito, CA to Portland, OR in the days following Herrmann's disappearance.

The last known location of Herrmann's 2007 Toyota Highlander was outside Lengyel's residence in El Cerrito, as per the police report.

Lengyel, a founding member of the funk-metal band Mr. Bungle, played saxophone, keyboards, and clarinet for the group from 1985 to the mid-1990s, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

During the course of the investigation, human remains were found in a wooded area of Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley. While the remains are currently undergoing DNA testing, it is suspected that they belong to Herrmann. The police have yet to disclose information regarding the cause of death.

Lengyel was arrested without incident and is currently held at the Santa Cruz County Jail, NBC News reported. It remains unclear whether he has secured legal representation.

Prior to the discovery of the remains, the authorities had issued a notice to the public, particularly those frequenting regional parks and open spaces, to be vigilant for any suspicious activity that could potentially lead to Herrmann's whereabouts.
