As we approach the first anniversary of the events of January 6, 2021, President Joe Biden, who has spent 37 percent of his 2023 year on vacation, is set to underscore the threat of white supremacy in America.

This has been a recurring theme in his administration since he assumed office.

Biden, along with Vice President Kamala Harris, plans to center their re-election campaign around the concerns of white supremacy and domestic terrorism perpetrated by American citizens. This focus is not on potential threats from cells that may have infiltrated through the porous US-Mexico border.

The incident on January 6, when hundreds of Trump supporters were allowed entry into the Capitol Building by Capitol Police officers and subsequently arrested for trespassing, has been utilized by Democrats to fuel racial tensions against white people and Trump supporters. Despite Biden's crafted rhetoric, Trump's support among Hispanic voters, young people, and his 12 percent support among black voters has remained steady since 2020.

Democrats were quick to label the Trump supporters as perpetrators of a "deadly insurrection" once the Capitol Building was secure. However, they largely overlooked the fact that the only fatality that day was Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed Trump supporter and veteran, who was shot by Capitol Police. It was later revealed that there was "no good reason" for her shooting.

For Biden, this anniversary provides an opportunity to reiterate his belief that domestic terrorism and white supremacy, not border security, escalating crime rates, inflation, or a $34 trillion debt, are the real threats to America. In May, Biden pledged "to stand up against the poison of white supremacy, as I did in my inaugural address — to single it out as the most dangerous terrorist threat to our homeland is white supremacy."

Biden is scheduled to speak at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, the site where George Washington, the founding father and first president, commanded his troops during the Revolution. This location choice appears to be an attempt by Biden to draw parallels between himself, a long-serving government official, and Washington, a leader who willingly relinquished power after two terms to ensure a peaceful transition of power.

Following his address at Valley Forge, Biden will travel to Charleston, South Carolina, to visit the historically black Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. This church was the site of a mass shooting in 2015, carried out by a 21-year-old white man convicted on federal hate crime and murder charges, resulting in the death of nine parishioners.

Biden's campaign has described this location as a "historic venue that embodies the stakes of our nation at this moment."

"Whether it is white supremacists descending on a historic American city in Charlottesville, the assault on our nation’s capital on Jan. 6 or a white supremacist murdering churchgoers at Mother Emanuel nearly nine years ago, America is worried about the rise in political violence and determined to stand against it," stated Quentin Fulks, principal deputy campaign manager for Biden.

In a speech delivered in Philadelphia in September 2022, Biden claimed that "Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic." This statement was based on the events of January 6, which have not been repeated or escalated. However, for Biden's campaign, this is the cornerstone of their argument for re-election.

Echoing these sentiments, Biden's campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodríguez stated, "The threat Donald Trump posed in 2020 to American democracy has only grown more dire in the years since. Our message is clear and it is simple. We are running a campaign like the fate of our democracy depends on it. Because it does."

Biden's Department of Justice has been active in pursuing Trump supporters who were either inside the Capitol on January 6 or merely on the premises. This includes journalists who were documenting the day's events. The DOJ has also targeted Trump with charges stemming from that day, alleging that he engaged in a conspiracy against rights, despite no evidence suggesting that Trump incited the riot.

In a controversial move, Biden's FBI labeled Catholics who attend Latin Mass as domestic terrorists, even sending undercover agents into churches. His DOJ also encouraged the FBI to investigate parents who voiced concerns at school board meetings about Covid restrictions or sexually explicit material in schools using the same tools they use to combat domestic terrorism.

Biden's press secretary proudly stated on Tuesday that the president has "always, always put equity at the center of every policy he's put forward."
