John Podesta, the Senior Adviser to the President for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation, recently held a meeting with Climate Defiance, a radical climate activist group known for its confrontational approach towards Biden administration officials.

The group has previously targeted Podesta himself, along with Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi.

The meeting, which took place around December 15, centered on the administration's green energy and fossil fuel infrastructure policies. Podesta, a seasoned figure in the Democratic Party, is responsible for coordinating and implementing the administration's extensive green energy subsidy package.

In a letter to Podesta dated December 15, Climate Defiance stated, “As long as [President Joe] Biden continues supporting massive new fossil fuel infrastructure projects which eclipse emissions reductions, the planet’s natural systems will continue to break down. It is already terrifyingly evident that such a result harms our most vulnerable populations first and worst.” The group further implored Podesta to use his influence to prevent such dire consequences.

The activist group also expressed its desire for the Biden administration to terminate the Calcasieu Pass 2 project. This substantial natural gas infrastructure development in Louisiana is likely to be the next major target for environmentalists, following their unsuccessful attempt to stop ConocoPhillips’ Willow Project in Alaska.

Climate Defiance has a history of targeting high-profile figures, including Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Deputy Energy Secretary David Turk, and Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Amy Klobuchar.

The group is one of many disruptive eco-activism organizations funded by the Climate Emergency Fund (CEF), a nonprofit that receives tax-deductible donations from several affluent American liberals. These include Hollywood writer Adam McKay, "Succession" star Jeremy Strong, and Hillary Clinton's Onward Together organization, as reported in CEF’s 2022 annual report.

Democratic Representatives Ro Khanna, Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, and Jamaal Bowman have all attended Climate Defiance events.
