In a recent Christmas message, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York and a prominent member of the progressive "Squad," has drawn criticism for her controversial comparison of Jesus Christ to Palestinians.

This comparison has led to her being labeled as "an ignorant, illiterate, embarrassment."

The Congresswoman's contentious statement was made on Instagram, where she posted an image of a child amidst the ruins of a bombed building. "In the story of Christmas, Christ was born in modern-day Palestine under the threat of a government engaged in a massacre of innocents," Ocasio-Cortez stated. She drew parallels between the biblical narrative of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph and the current conflict between Israel and Hamas, the terrorist organization based in Gaza.

This comparison came in the wake of a brutal attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7, which claimed the lives of approximately 1,400 civilians. Israel has since vowed to eliminate this terrorist threat.

Ocasio-Cortez continued her narrative by stating, "Mary and Joseph, displaced by violence and forced to flee, became refugees in Egypt with a newborn waiting to one day return home. Thousands of years later, right-wing forces are violently occupying Bethlehem as similar stories unfold for today's Palestinians." She claimed that the Christian community in Bethlehem had canceled their Christmas Eve celebrations out of safety concerns and respect.

However, it should be noted that Bethlehem, which was handed over to Muslim control years ago, has seen a significant increase in threats to Christians due to changes in boundaries and governance. This has led to Christian gatherings often becoming targets for violence.

The Congresswoman further stated, "And yet, also today, holy children are still being born in a place of unspeakable violence — for every child born, of any identity and from any place, is sacred.

Especially the children of Gaza." She emphasized that the story of Christmas and Christ himself is about standing with the marginalized and misunderstood, including refugees and immigrants.

Rabbi Shmuley, often referred to as "America's Rabbi" and a nationally recognized religious figure, criticized Ocasio-Cortez's post, stating, "Antisemite @AOC says Jesus was not a Jew, but a Palestinian. What an ignorant, illiterate, embarrassment to both Christianity, and the United States, who has never read a single page of the New Testament."

Jacob Kornbluh, senior political reporter for The Forward, also noted Ocasio-Cortez's omission of any mention of Hamas's terror activities or the victims of the October 7 attack in her post. Ocasio-Cortez has previously labeled Israel's response to the terrorism as "war crimes."
