John Schneider, a prominent actor best known for his role in the 1980s sitcom "The Dukes of Hazzard," has sparked controversy with a tweet directed at President Joe Biden, accusing him of treason and suggesting a public execution.

The tweet, which also implicated Biden's son, read, "Mr. President, I believe you are guilty of treason and should be publicly hung (sic). Your son too. Your response is..?”

Schneider, who played the character Beauregard "Bo" Duke in the popular series, posted the contentious tweet in response to a message from President Biden. The president had earlier criticized former President Donald Trump, stating that Trump "poses many threats to our country … but the greatest he poses is to our democracy. If we lose that, we lose everything.”

The actor's tweet quickly garnered significant attention, amassing hundreds of thousands of views before it was removed. Following the incident, reports emerged suggesting that the Secret Service, responsible for the safety of the first family, had initiated an investigation. Secret Service spokesman Steven Kopek confirmed the agency's awareness of Schneider's comments but refrained from confirming or denying an ongoing investigation, stating, "We can say, however, that the Secret Service investigates all threats related to our protectees.”

Schneider, who was also recently named runner-up on the Fox singing competition "The Masked Singer," defended his comments in an interview with entertainment news site Deadline. He argued that his words had been misinterpreted, stating, "I absolutely did not call for an act of violence or threaten a U.S. president as many other celebrities have done in the past. I suggest you re-read my actual post.” He further asserted his right to express his opinion, criticizing what he perceives as a lack of direction among the nation's leaders in Washington.

This incident is not the first instance of a celebrity facing backlash for controversial statements or actions against a sitting President. In 2017, comedian Kathy Griffin was dismissed from CNN following the display of a graphic image featuring a fake severed head of then-President Trump.
