The atmosphere at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas was electric during UFC 296, as the audience erupted into applause upon the arrival of former President Donald Trump.

Accompanying him were renowned rock musician Kid Rock and UFC CEO Dana White.

Trump's support for UFC is well-known, but the fight on Saturday night held additional significance due to the participation of welterweight champion Colby Covington, one of Trump's most ardent supporters.

Covington, prior to his match against Leon Edwards, expressed his wish to have the former President bestow the winning belt on him, should he emerge victorious. "I'm his (Trump's) biggest fan, and he is my biggest role model. What better way than to have him put the belt around me," Covington stated during an appearance on the FullSend podcast.

Known as the "people's champ," Covington was featured in a promotional video for UFC 296, dressed as a founding father and sporting a red "Make America Great Again" hat. He shared the video on social media, asking his followers, "Are you ready for the revolution!?"

In the video, Covington declared, "I'm the people's champ so I got to deliver to the people. They want a show, I'mma give them a show. Just like our forefathers, Mr. General Washington, it's now General Covington."

Addressing a crowd, he asked, "Did you come out here to support these red coat motherf-ckers? Or did you come to be a part of the American Revolution? Let's go, team America! God Bless. 1776 baby! It's the American Revolution. General Washington started it. General Covington ends it."

Covington (17-3) was set to compete against Leon Edwards (21-3) for the welterweight title.

Trump's appearance at UFC 296 was not his first. He was warmly welcomed at UFC 295 in New York City's Madison Square Garden last month, where he was accompanied by Tucker Carlson, Kid Rock, and UFC CEO Dana White. He also attended UFC 287 in downtown Miami in April and UFC 290 in Las Vegas in July, where he was seen with Roger Stone and acclaimed actor Mel Gibson.

During Trump's appearance at UFC 287, UFC legend Jorge Masvidal led a chant of "Let’s Go Brandon." He also declared, "Also, I want to say, greatest president in the history of the world sitting right there. I love that guy." He then urged the crowd to chant "Let's Go Brandon!" in a veiled reference to President Joe Biden.
