In a startling incident at the Iowa Capitol building, a Christian and former military officer has reportedly toppled and decapitated a Satanic altar.

The Sentinel reports that Michael Cassidy, the individual responsible for the act, discarded the statue's head into a trash bin after beheading it.

The statue, a representation of Baphomet, was installed by the Satanic Temple of Iowa with official permission. Cassidy, however, took it upon himself to dismantle the altar, citing his motivation as a desire to "awaken Christians to the anti-Christian acts promoted by our government."

Cassidy expressed his views to The Sentinel, stating, "The world may tell Christians to submissively accept the legitimization of Satan, but none of the founders would have considered government sanction of Satanic altars inside Capitol buildings as protected by the First Amendment." He further added, "Anti-Christian values have steadily been mainstreamed more and more in recent decades, and Christians have largely acted like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot of water."

Following his actions, Cassidy voluntarily surrendered to the officers present in the building. The Satanic Temple of Iowa has confirmed its intention to press charges against Cassidy, who now faces a charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief.

In defense of his actions, Cassidy stated, “I saw this blasphemous statue and was outraged. My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted.”

Cassidy, a former Navy pilot, has previously run for Congress in Mississippi.

The installation of the Satanic altar sparked widespread outrage. An Iowa lawmaker called for the immediate removal of the "blasphemous display," arguing that it was unconstitutional and offensive to God, upon whom the State of Iowa depends for blessings.

The lawmaker further called for legislation prohibiting Satanic displays in the Capitol building and all state-owned property. He also advocated for legislation allowing the display of the Ten Commandments in the Capitol, all state-owned buildings, and public schools.

The controversial display, which was permitted to remain in the Capitol building for two weeks, featured a mirrored, caped statue of Baphomet adorned with a black and red "holiday wreath" with a pentagram at its center.
