In a recent appearance on the "All-In" podcast, Tucker Carlson, a prominent conservative commentator, expressed his concerns about the current state of society, particularly in California.

He warned of the dangers of living in chaos, which he believes is becoming increasingly prevalent.

"Dying is not the worst thing; the worst thing is living in chaos, and we're starting to live in chaos," Carlson stated. He cited the de facto legalization of shoplifting in California as an example of this societal disorder.

Carlson also voiced his fears about the potential for a return to order, which he believes could lead to authoritarianism. He singled out Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, as a figure who could potentially exploit this situation.

"The return to order is what scares me," Carlson said. "I do think Gavin Newsom is a fascist; I think he's the kind of person who would have no problem, no hesitation about using the DOJ to imprison his political opponents."

He further suggested that the current societal chaos might be paving the way for increased authoritarianism. "I think because we're in a moment of chaos right now, people kind of want that actually. I think one of the purposes of degrading and confusing our society is to make way for authoritarianism, even more than we have now, so that kind of freaks me out."

Dave Rubin, the host of the podcast, agreed with Carlson's sentiments. "Tucker is making a really deep point there," Rubin said. "The chaos only lasts for so long because people cannot functionally deal with that … [so] they would be glad to usher in an authoritarian society."

Rubin further elaborated on this point, suggesting that if societal disorder continues unchecked, people might demand a strong, authoritarian leader to restore order. "At some point, when your city is endlessly burning, and you can't go into stores any more and all of those things, then you might demand a real authoritarian leader to clean it up."
