Maher's comments came during a discussion on Trump's potential 2024 presidential campaign platform.

"He says under his administration, his next one, schools will teach students to love their country, not to hate their country like they’re taught now," Maher stated. "I’ve got to say, this one doesn’t bother me so much."

Maher went on to express his concern over what he perceives as an increasing trend of anti-American sentiment among young progressives. He cited recent demonstrations in support of Hamas as an example, suggesting that such actions reflect a broader disdain for America.

"This is what I see when I see kids demonstrating, these progressives demonstrating for Hamas, the most illiberal people in the world," Maher said. "That, oh good, we’re going to give America its comeuppance, asshole America. This is — they kind of have been indoctrinated this way."

Maher also referenced a recent speech by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), in which Schumer described antisemitism as a "five-alarm fire that must be extinguished." Maher suggested that Schumer's comments highlight a generational divide within the Democratic Party, with younger members appearing to side with Palestinians and older members aligning more with Israel.

Later in the discussion, Maher noted a shift in political behavior, pointing out that White House and congressional staffers have recently been protesting against their own leaders.

He expressed surprise at this development, stating, "Well, you’re staffers, you’re supposed to stay silent, what are you talking about? My boss is doing a shit job and I thought I’d go public with it? This is hundreds of people in Biden’s staff and on congressional Democrat staff who are publicly going against them because they’re not supporting Hamas enough."
