A 14-year-old girl, implicated in a series of retail thefts that saw over $30,000 worth of merchandise stolen across San Francisco, has been apprehended by the police.

The arrest followed a thorough investigation into a series of thefts that occurred between April 11 and November 24, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The young girl was allegedly part of an unidentified group of suspects who targeted several stores on the 800 block of Market Street, including high-end retailers. The group is believed to have made off with merchandise valued between $140 and $6,600 on each occasion.

The girl now faces charges including felony organized retail theft, second-degree burglary, and grand theft. Authorities have linked her to 15 separate theft incidents. A bulletin for her arrest was issued in connection with the robberies and an outstanding warrant from Alameda County.

The arrest was made on Friday when police responded to a theft in progress at a store on Market Street. The girl has since been booked into the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center.

This arrest comes amidst a surge in crime that has plagued San Francisco in recent years, leading to a significant exodus of businesses and residents. The Tenderloin District, where the teen is believed to have committed the series of retail thefts, has become a hotbed of criminal activity. The district, once a thriving corridor, is now overrun by criminals, homeless individuals, and rampant drug use.

The San Francisco Police Department has reported 28,620 instances of larceny theft and 2,651 instances of burglary this year. Despite these figures representing a decrease from the 61,715 larceny thefts reported last year, the city's struggle with crime persists.

Efforts to combat the crime wave have seen local, state, and federal agencies invest heavily in the area since June. However, the city is on track to set a record for fatal drug overdoses this year, with 20 percent of reported drug-related crimes occurring within a block of Market Street, according to the Daily Mail.

Over the past year, several iconic businesses, including Nordstroms, Walgreens, and Whole Foods, have announced their departure from San Francisco. One business owner, an immigrant from Afghanistan, likened the city's current state to that of his war-torn homeland, stating that the city was worse than the country he fled.
