In a shocking incident that unfolded on Wednesday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is probing a vehicle explosion at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing between the United States and Canada.

Sources have informed Fox News' Alexis McAdams that the incident appears to be an attempted act of terrorism.

The vehicle, which was reportedly laden with explosives, resulted in the death of two occupants, as per the sources who relayed the information to Fox News' Alexis McAdams. A border officer also sustained injuries in the incident.

The sources further revealed that the vehicle was en route from the U.S. to Canada, with an apparent intention to target the border officer building. In the aftermath of the incident, all bridges in the vicinity have been shut down and government buildings have been evacuated.

The incident has led to the closure of international border crossing points between Canada and Western New York. It has also resulted in injuries to a 27-year-old male, who was subsequently transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. The victim, suffering from minor injuries including back pain and minor cuts, is not in a severe condition.

In an official statement, the FBI Buffalo Field Office confirmed, "We are investigating a vehicle explosion at the Rainbow Bridge, a border crossing between the US and Canada in Niagara Falls." The statement further added, "The FBI is coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners in this investigation. As this situation is very fluid, that's all we can say at this time."

The Rainbow Bridge serves as a connection between Niagara Falls, New York, and Niagara Falls, Canada. Other bridges including the Peace Bridge, Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, and Whirlpool Bridge are also closed as the investigation proceeds.

Buffalo Airport has issued a statement informing travelers about additional security measures. "In response to the incident that is unfolding at the Rainbow Bridge, the NFTA is increasing security system-wide.

Cars coming into the Buffalo Airport will undergo security checks and travelers can expect additional screenings. The Buffalo and Niagara Falls Airports are fully operational. We advise travelers to give themselves time for these extra precautions in addition to holiday travel," the airport stated.
