A Minnesota couple has encountered an unexpected hurdle in their quest to deposit their collection of pennies.

John Becker and his wife have spent the past decade diligently saving pennies, resulting in a five-gallon jug filled with thousands of coins estimated to be worth $300. However, when Becker attempted to deposit the money-filled pitcher at their local Border Bank in Coon Rapids, they were met with refusal.

Becker, a Korean War veteran, expressed his frustration, stating, "My wife saves them. Now, we've got another jug full that she's been saving over 10 years and now the bank won't take them. What are we going to do with them? There's 300 pounds in there. We can't use them for a boat anchor because they stole my boat."

The branch President of Border Bank explained the bank's stance, stating that while they gladly accept loose coins, they are unable to process heavy-weight containers. "It would be too heavy to lift, and the coins would get jammed in the neck of the container," the branch president clarified. However, they offered a solution, stating, "If the customer can move the coins to smaller buckets without a neck, we'd be happy to process."

Interestingly, this is not the first time the couple has attempted to deposit a jug of coins at the bank. They had successfully done so in the past, using a similar container. Becker's wife expressed her willingness to pay someone to assist them in transferring the coins from the jug, while Becker himself humorously suggested that they would need a cart to move the container around.

Despite the setback, the couple remains undeterred in their penny-saving hobby. While they contemplate the best course of action for their current vessel of coins, they continue to diligently pick up and save pennies. "They're everywhere. I pick them up for my wife because she still likes to save them," Becker shared.

As the couple navigates this unexpected challenge, their dedication to their penny-saving endeavor remains unwavering.
