In a recent development, Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who was instrumental in the removal of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House, has lodged an ethics complaint against McCarthy.

This follows an alleged physical assault on Representative Tim Burchett by McCarthy, as reported by the Gateway Pundit.

Previously, a group of Republican representatives, including Andy Biggs of Arizona, Ken Buck of Colorado, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Eli Crane of Arizona, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Bob Good of Virginia, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, had grown weary of McCarthy's perceived capitulation to Democrats. They concluded that a change in the Speaker's position was necessary for the country.

However, McCarthy did not exit the scene without resistance. Gaetz and Mace disclosed that McCarthy was covertly attempting to thwart any potential Speaker candidates, including Jim Jordan, who is widely regarded as one of the most popular Republicans in Congress.

The House of Representatives was embroiled in controversy when McCarthy allegedly struck Congressman Burchett in the back. Burchett described the incident as a "clean shot to the kidneys" and later told reporters, "He's a bully with a $17 million security detail."

NPR reporter Claudia Grisales supported Burchett's account of the incident, tweeting, "Speaker McCarthy walked by with his detail and McCarthy shoved Burchett. Burchett lunged towards me. I thought it was a joke, it was not."

Despite McCarthy's denial of the accusations, the presence of two witnesses, including a reporter from NPR, a media outlet not typically sympathetic to conservatives, suggests that his denial may be untruthful.

It is worth noting that McCarthy recently expressed his displeasure at the so-called "crazy eight," who voted for his removal as Speaker after he allegedly failed to fulfill his election promises. His resentment towards those who voted him out is palpable.

McCarthy's hostility towards Representative Matt Gaetz, who lodged the ethics complaint, has also been repeatedly demonstrated.

Investigative journalist Nick Sortor reported, "JUST IN: @MattGaetz has officially filed an ethics complaint against Kevin McCarthy after the former Speaker ASSAULTED Rep. Tim Burchett today at the US Capitol."

Burchett described the attack as a "sucker punch" and "a clean shot to the kidney."

The complaint filed by Gaetz begins, "It has come to my attention that this morning, November 14, 2023, following a meeting of the House Republican Conference, Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) assaulted Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) in the hallways of Capitol complex. This assault was witnessed by multiple people, including Claudia [Grisales] of NPR, who was interviewing Rep. Burchett at the time."

The complaint further states, "Needless to say, this incident deserves immediate and swift investigation by the Ethics Committee. This Congress has seen a substantial increase in breaches of decorum unlike anything we have seen since the pre-Civil War era. I myself have been a victim of outrageous conduct on the House floor as well, but nothing like an open and public assault on a Member, committed by another Member. The rot starts at the top."

With McCarthy already removed from the Speakership, there are calls for his expulsion from Congress.
