In a recent court hearing, Paul Pelosi, spouse of ex-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, testified about the terrifying assault he endured in their San Francisco residence in 2022.

Pelosi recounted the chilling details of the October 28 attack, which occurred in the dead of night.

"I was awakened by the door opening, and a large man entered, brandishing a hammer in one hand and ties in the other. He demanded, 'Where’s Nancy,' which I believe roused me from sleep," Pelosi stated. "I was sleeping when he burst through the door, which jolted me awake."

The 83-year-old Pelosi, who admitted to not activating the house's security system, suffered a fractured skull and severe injuries to his right arm and hands as a result of the attack.

Federal prosecutors allege that the attacker, David DePape, broke his shoulder while smashing through a glass panel on a door at the rear of the Pelosi's Pacific Heights mansion. He then confronted a slumbering Paul Pelosi, who was dressed in boxer shorts and a pajama top.

"Where’s Nancy? Where’s Nancy?" DePape demanded, looming over Paul Pelosi at approximately 2 a.m., armed with a hammer and zip ties, as per court documents. At the time, Nancy Pelosi was in Washington, under the protection of her security detail, a service not extended to family members.

Authorities report that Paul Pelosi dialed 911, and two responding officers witnessed DePape strike him on the head with a hammer, rendering him unconscious. Prosecutors presented the jury with police body camera footage of the assault.

DePape, 43, has entered a plea of not guilty to charges of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on an immediate family member of a federal official with the intent to retaliate against the official for the performance of their duties.

The prosecution team introduced an FBI agent who seized DePape's electronics, a U.S. Capitol police officer who monitors the surveillance cameras at the Pelosi's residence, another officer who has been guarding Nancy Pelosi since 2006, and a Bay Area Rapid Transit police sergeant.

DePape's defense team argues that he was ensnared in conspiracy theories, leading him to believe that corrupt leaders were governing the country. Prosecutors contend that he had been plotting to attack the Pelosi residence for several months.

If found guilty, DePape could face a life sentence.
