In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Capitol Police assured the public that there is currently no threat and that more details regarding the incident will be provided shortly. As a precautionary measure, the agency announced that they would be conducting a search of the suspect's belongings. Videos circulating on social media platforms depicted a significant police presence during the arrest.
According to WRC-TV, Capitol Police officers observed the suspect walking in the park adjacent to Delaware Avenue NE, located in front of Union Station. The suspect was seen carrying a "long gun."

The officers instructed the individual to drop the weapon, but he failed to comply. Consequently, the suspect was tased by the police. A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the man was in possession of an AR-15 rifle.
