New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is currently prosecuting a civil lawsuit against former President Donald Trump, has reportedly received significant financial backing from billionaire George Soros, members of his family, and other prominent donors.

This information comes from filings reviewed by Fox News Digital.

James, a member of the Democratic Party, initiated the lawsuit against Trump in 2021, accusing him and his company of misleading banks and other entities about the value of his assets. She alleged that Trump's children - Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric, as well as his associates and businesses, committed "numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentation" in their financial statements.

The civil fraud trial against Trump, which originated from James' lawsuit, is being overseen by New York City Judge Arthur Engoron. Trump has publicly criticized James for initiating the lawsuit, expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of a jury in the trial, and questioned Engoron's handling of the case.

Trump has also dismissed Engoron as a "Democrat" and an "operative," while labeling James as a "radical-left attorney general."

According to state campaign finance records reviewed by Fox News Digital, James has received substantial support from numerous left-wing donors who have also invested heavily in anti-Trump efforts in the past.

George Soros, a financier, has reportedly contributed at least $20,000 to James' candidacy, including two $10,000 donations in 2021 and 2022. Soros, a 93-year-old billionaire, has invested millions of dollars in efforts supporting Biden and opposing Trump. His Open Society Foundations has funded numerous left-wing organizations that have worked against the former president.

However, Soros was not the only family member to financially support James. His son, Jonathan Soros, donated at least $10,000 to her campaign between 2018 and 2022, while Jonathan's wife, Jennifer Allan Soros, contributed $4,000 in 2022.

Reid Hoffman, billionaire co-founder of LinkedIn, who has been criticized for his past efforts to rehabilitate the image of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, is one of the largest backers of the New York attorney general. Records indicate that Hoffman donated $47,100 to her campaign in 2022. Hoffman has also invested heavily in efforts to undermine Trump.

Karla Jurvetson, a California-based physician, has provided James with at least $67,300 in campaign contributions since 2019, according to the filings. Like Soros and Hoffman, Jurvetson has spent significant amounts opposing Trump and supporting Biden, positioning herself as a prominent donor in recent election cycles.

Other notable contributors to James' campaign include director Spike Lee, former Meta executive Sheryl Sandberg, ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer.

Trump and his spokesperson have consistently criticized James during his civil fraud trial. A Trump spokesperson previously stated, "The Attorney General filed this case under a consumer protection statute that denies the right to a jury. There was never an option to choose a jury trial. It is unfortunate that a jury won’t be able to hear how absurd the merits of this case are and conclude no wrongdoing ever happened."

Engoron, who is presiding over the civil fraud trial, has exclusively donated to Democrats. He holds unique authority over Trump's civil fraud case, overseeing it and ultimately determining its outcome and penalties. James is seeking a $250 million penalty against Trump's businesses, accusing him of fraudulent practices.

Over the past 25 years, Engoron has donated more than $5,000 to Democrats, according to the Daily Wire. His donations have primarily gone to local committees, with his most recent contribution going to Manhattan Democrats in 2018.

Engoron has previously expressed his controversial view that he could overrule juries based on his emotions, as revealed in a video that circulated on social media.

Last month, Engoron ruled that Trump and the Trump Organization committed fraud while building his real estate empire by deceiving banks, insurers, and others by overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing financing.

Engoron’s ruling followed James' lawsuit against Trump, his children, and the Trump Organization, in which she alleged that the former president "inflated his net worth by billions of dollars" and that his children assisted him in doing so.
