In a recent development, the Speaker Emerita and U.S. Representative for the 11th Congressional District of California, Nancy Pelosi, has been served with third-party subpoenas in a criminal case.

The case is based in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Pelosi's involvement was announced on the House floor by House Reading Clerk Tylease Alli, who read Pelosi's written notification of the subpoena, as required by official House rules.

The statement read, "This is to notify you formally pursuant to Rule VIII of the rules of the House of Representatives that I, the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, speaker emerita, and U.S. representative for the 11th Congressional District of California, have been served with third-party subpoenas from the prosecution and the defendant to produce documents in a criminal case in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California."

Pelosi further stated, "After consultation with the Office of General Counsel, I have determined that compliance with the subpoenas is consistent with the privileges and rights of the House. To the extent it requires production of non-privileged information, the responses to the subpoenas will be identical. Signed, sincerely, Nancy Pelosi, speaker emerita."

However, neither Pelosi nor the House Clerk provided additional information regarding the case or the nature of the documents subpoenaed. Pelosi's office has declined to comment further on the matter.

According to Fox News, the subpoenas are linked to the criminal case against David DePape, who is accused of assaulting Pelosi's husband in their San Francisco home last year. DePape's federal trial is scheduled to commence next week.

In related news, a witness in the case, referred to as "Target 1" in court documents, has sought to avoid testifying at the trial. The federal indictment against DePape alleges that "Target 1" was high on his list of targets and that DePape planned to use Pelosi to lure "Target 1" to him.

As the case moves towards jury selection next week, Federal Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley suggested that the identity of "Target 1" is likely unknown to the general public in San Francisco. Politico quoted her as saying, "the odds that Target 1 is known are going to be slim."
