In a recent commentary, Glenn Beck, the conservative radio host, made a surprising assertion, "Witches are real," he declared, "and they're politically liberal."

This statement came in response to a segment aired by National Public Radio (NPR) that delved into the world of witchcraft.

NPR's segment began with the assertion, "Witches have long cast a spell on American entertainment, but they aren't just a figure of our imagination. Witchcraft is a real practice, and people who practice witchcraft are all around you." The segment featured an interview with American writer Diana Helmuth, who spent a year exploring witchcraft.

Helmuth shared her experiences, stating, "It was month seven before I tried to make a connection with the goddess," whether she is "a real deity up in the sky" or "a metaphor for the interconnectedness of everything on Earth." She described a ritual she performed, after which she "just suddenly felt flooded with bliss."

Beck's initial reaction to the NPR story was dismissive. "Of course, NPR is on the side with witches," he said. However, he also expressed concern, citing NPR's claim that there are more witches than Presbyterians in the United States. He also referenced a USA Today report that 'hip witchcraft' is on the rise in the U.S.

Beck observed that witchcraft is a popular topic in liberal media, and unlike in the past, when terms like "the occult" were viewed negatively, today's society seems fascinated with witchcraft. He further noted that practitioners of witchcraft often align with progressive ideologies.

"Witchcraft is especially popular among transgender activists," Beck said, citing an academic article. The article stated, "Contemporary paganism portrays gender in an array of different ways and, as such, is very inclusive of sexual diversity. Much of this phenomena happens through what pagans call witchcraft."

Beck also referred to online sources that describe witchcraft as an inclusive movement experiencing a resurgence among queer-identified young people seeking a powerful identity that celebrates the freedom to choose who you are.

In his concluding remarks, Beck drew a connection between witches, leftists, transgender activists, NPR, and the liberal media. He argued that they are all "fighting for relevance," seeking attention through shock tactics, but ultimately losing their power when people stop watching or caring.
