President Biden's popularity among Arab American voters has seen a significant decline following the Israel-Hamas conflict, with his approval ratings hitting an all-time low.

A recent poll by the Arab American Institute reveals a 42-point drop in support for Biden's potential re-election bid among Arab Americans, falling from 59 percent in 2020 to a mere 17 percent. The poll suggests that if the election were to take place today, 40 percent of respondents would vote for former President Trump, the leading Republican candidate, a slight increase from the 35 percent who expressed support for him in 2020.

The poll also found that a quarter of respondents were uncertain about their choice of candidate if the 2024 election were held today. Furthermore, the number of Arab Americans identifying as Democrats has decreased by 17 percent since April, with only 23 percent now aligning with the party. This marks a historic shift in the Arab American community's political preferences, as the majority have traditionally favored the Democratic Party, according to the institute's 26-year polling history.

The institute commissioned this nationwide poll in the wake of the recent violence in Palestine/Israel, triggered by the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel and the subsequent Israeli response in Gaza. The survey revealed that 66 percent of Arab Americans hold a negative view of Biden, with a mere 20 percent rating his presidential performance as excellent or good.

The institute highlighted the potential impact of this shift on the 2024 election, noting the significant Arab American populations in key swing states such as Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Biden has faced mounting pressure from progressives to advocate for a cease-fire, with criticism over his handling of the Middle East violence coming from left-wing Democrats, young voters, and others. The poll found that 67 percent of Arab Americans disapprove of Biden's response to the Middle East conflict, while 68 percent believe the U.S. should call for a cease-fire and halt the supply of weapons and military equipment to Israel.

The survey also revealed that 78 percent of Arab Americans are worried about anti-Arab bigotry, and 67 percent are concerned about rising antisemitism in the U.S. Additionally, 59 percent reported experiencing discrimination since April, marking a 6 percent increase.

The poll, conducted between October 23-27, surveyed 500 Arab Americans and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
