Gingrich made these remarks during an appearance on Fox News with host Sean Hannity, following two deadly shootings in Lewiston, Maine.
The first incident involved a 40-year-old man named Robert Card, who entered a bowling alley and later a restaurant, where he killed 18 people and injured 13 others. When asked about these killings, Gingrich argued that more relaxed gun laws would provide individuals with a better chance of defending themselves. He emphasized the importance of concealed carry permits and other similar measures, stating that they enable a quicker response to such violent individuals.

Gingrich also drew attention to the recent massacre of Israeli civilians by Hamas terrorists on October 7. He asserted that citizens need to have a greater ability to protect themselves in order to prevent such tragedies. According to Gingrich, individuals in violent situations often find themselves as the first responders, as law enforcement officers are rarely present to intervene and stop the massacre.
