Representative Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.), a member of the progressive Squad group, continues to deny Palestinian responsibility for the recent hospital blast in Gaza.

Last week, several major U.S. news outlets quickly reported that an Israeli airstrike had hit a Gaza hospital where civilians were seeking shelter, based on Hamas's claim.

However, U.S. intelligence has since debunked this claim, revealing that the blast was actually caused by a misfired rocket from Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Video evidence also shows that the blast did not directly hit the hospital but instead struck the parking lot.

In response to these developments, Tlaib told Israeli newspaper Haaretz on Monday, "Media outlets and third-party analysts have raised doubts about claims and evidence offered by both Israel and the Gaza Ministry of Health, and I agree with the United Nations that an independent investigation is necessary."

She added, "I cannot accept Israel's denials of responsibility without question, especially considering reports from the World Health Organization of Israel bombing medical facilities in Gaza and ongoing threats from the Israeli military to evacuate hospitals, as reported by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society."

Initially, the Gaza Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, estimated that 500 Palestinians were killed in the hospital blast. Tlaib echoed this estimate shortly after the incident occurred.

Tlaib's comments come despite video analyses conducted by major news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, CNN, and the Associated Press, which confirmed that the blast was caused by a rocket originating from Gaza.

Tlaib has been calling for a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, advocating for de-escalation in the Middle East. She attended an anti-Israel protest on Capitol Hill last Wednesday, where thousands of protesters gathered, leading to hundreds unlawfully entering a House office building while Congress was in session. As a result, approximately 300 individuals were arrested by Capitol Police.

In response to Tlaib's actions, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.) plans to introduce a resolution on Tuesday to censure Tlaib, accusing her of inciting an "insurrection" at the Capitol last week.

The resolution aims to formally disapprove of Tlaib's "antisemitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations, and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex" on October 18, 2023.
