The family of 34-year-old Robert Owens is demanding answers after his remains were mistaken for a Halloween decoration for several days.

Owens was last seen alive on October 1, and a week later, his body was discovered on the long driveway of an abandoned home in China Grove, a small town in central North Carolina.

According to reports, a man who was mowing the lawn near the abandoned home had ignored Owens' body, assuming it was a Halloween decoration. Haley Shue, Owens' sister, expressed her disbelief at the man's actions, stating, "Don't know how you can do that. Mow right beside someone and assume that they're Halloween decorations at a house no one lives at."

The family revealed that Owens had very few clothes on when his body was found. It was eventually discovered by a construction worker who noticed cuts and scrapes on Owens' arms, suggesting defensive wounds.

Shue expressed her confusion about how Owens ended up at the abandoned home on Shue Road, stating, "My grandmother has lived off of Shue Road for 40+ years, and he's never been to this house. He's never known of this house this far off the road. He's never been back here. He's never been known to come here."

While Owens' family acknowledges his history of drug use, they emphasize that he was loved by his nieces and nephews and are seeking answers regarding his untimely death.

The police have not yet classified Owens' death as a homicide, but their investigation is ongoing. They anticipate receiving more information once the autopsy report is completed.
