In a recent development, a prominent Black Lives Matter faction has publicly declared its solidarity with "the resistance in Palestine," following a lethal attack on Israel by Hamas over the past weekend.

Black Lives Matter Grassroots, rather than expressing condolences for the over 1,000 Israelis killed by Hamas terrorists, issued a statement affirming its support for Palestinians. The statement read, "[W]e must stand unwaveringly on the side of the oppressed."

The group's statement suggested that due to the Palestinians' exposure to "decades of apartheid and unimaginable violence," their resistance should not be criticized but perceived as a desperate act of self-defense.

Originating from the radical racial justice movement in America, the group drew "clear parallels between" the oppression of Black people in America and the Palestinians' subjugation by Israel.

On Monday, BLM Grassroots posted the statement on its Instagram page, stating, "Black Lives Matter Grassroots stands in solidarity with our Palestinian family who are currently resisting 57 years of settler colonialism and apartheid."

The group corrected the statement in a caption, indicating it should read "75 YEARS," not 57.

The statement further read, "As Black people continue the fight to end militarism and mass incarceration in our own communities, let us understand the resistance in Palestine as an attempt to tear down the gates of the world’s largest open air prison."

Drawing on the experiences of Black Americans, the statement continued, "We, too, understand what it means to be surveilled, dehumanized, property seized, families separated, our people criminalized and slaughtered with impunity, locked up in droves and when we resist they call us terrorists. We, too, dream of a world where our people may live freely on decolonized land. May the borders, checkpoints, prisons, police and watchlists that terrorize our communities crumble and may the world we build from their ashes honor those who fallen in struggle."

The statement concluded by calling for the dismantling of the entire apartheid system and an end to the war on the Palestinian people. It urged the U.S. government to cease funding war and redirect the $4 billion in annual spending from the Israeli military to repair the damage caused by U.S.-backed wars, military air strikes, coups, and destabilizing interventions against oppressed people worldwide.

The statement was released shortly before the Israeli military confirmed the discovery of the remains of 40 Israeli infants, victims of a massacre by Hamas in a local Israeli village. Some of the infants were found decapitated.

Although separate from the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF), formerly led by activist and self-proclaimed "trained Marxist" Patrisse Cullors, Black Lives Matter Grassroots continues to propagate the BLM message internationally. The Grassroots group comprises a coalition of 26 BLM chapters across the U.S. and U.K.

Last year, BLM Grassroots filed a lawsuit alleging that Shalomyah Bowers, the leader of BLMGNF, defrauded local chapters for "unjust enrichment" and misappropriated their funds as his "personal piggy bank," amounting to $10 million.

The lawsuit claimed that BLMGNF leaders reneged on their commitment to invest resources into the Grassroots group and blocked it from accessing BLM’s primary social media accounts.
