In a recent social media thread, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., criticized Israel's reaction to an unparalleled attack by Hamas.

Omar, a vocal critic of Israel and supporter of Palestinians, appeared to equate the Israeli victims of the Hamas attacks over the weekend with the Palestinians who have died in the subsequent Israeli response.

"Just as we honor the humanity of the hundreds of innocent Israeli civilians and 9 Americans who were killed this weekend, we must honor the humanity of the innocent Palestinian civilians who have been killed and whose lives are upended," Omar stated.

She continued to underscore the difficulties faced by those living in Gaza, accusing Israel of maintaining an "apartheid" state, which she suggested was a factor in the violence perpetrated by Hamas.

"Palestinian residents of the West Bank have scarcely better lives than Gazans—with the routine destruction of their ancestral homes, destruction of their crops, and violent attacks by Israeli settlers," Omar posted on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

She further argued that Palestinians have limited avenues for justice and accountability. "Attacks by the IDF and settlers against Palestinians are regularly met with impunity. Efforts to seek justice in international courts are stonewalled by the Israeli government, with U.S. support," she added. "As the world is condemning Hamas’s attacks, we must also oppose an Israeli military response that has already taken the lives of hundreds of Palestinians, including nearly two dozen children."

Fox News Digital's request for further clarification on the thread from Omar's office went unanswered. The congresswoman did not specify her view on how Israel should have reacted to the attack on Saturday, which resulted in at least 1,000 Israeli deaths and 2,700 injuries. Omar's sole suggestion for a "solution to this horror" was "a negotiated peace—with Israelis and Palestinians enjoying equal rights and security guarantees."

In a later part of the thread, Omar alleged that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had referred to all Palestinians as "human animals" in a recent statement, although his full comment clarified that he was specifically referring to Hamas terrorists. "We are imposing a complete siege on Gaza. There will be no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel. Everything will be closed," Gallant declared. "We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly."

Israeli forces have mobilized tens of thousands of soldiers around Gaza City, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hinted at the possibility of an impending ground invasion.
