California schools are facing criticism for what some are calling an excessive promotion of LGBT ideology to young children.

Last month, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law that will penalize school boards in the state if they fail to incorporate this type of curriculum. Despite the already prevalent inclusion of non-straight perspectives in the curriculum, the Los Angeles Unified School District's Board of Education believes that even five-year-olds can benefit from further sexualization and confusion.

Internal documents obtained by City Journal reveal that from October 9th to 13th, LAUSD elementary schools will be participating in a "Week of Action" following Pride Month, which includes activities for "National Coming Out Day." Teachers have been provided with a "toolkit" that suggests various classroom activities, such as creating an "identity map" and discussing "intersectionality."

One example of an identity map shows a child's attempt to reduce her humanity to sexual preferences, race, body size, mental health, and ability. Another example shows a person's sense of identity as a rainbow, a map of Wisconsin, a pagan symbol, and signs that read "white silence is violence" and "black lives matter." Teachers are asked to share these maps with the district.

The Week of Action goes beyond identity prompts. Each day, teachers are asked to celebrate a different LGBT icon in their morning announcements. For example, on Monday, teachers will celebrate Jazz Jennings, a boy whose parents sought to transition him at the age of five. Footage emerged earlier this year of Jazz's mother admitting to daily forcing her son to keep his groin wound fresh. Jazz has also expressed feelings of not being true to himself.

On Tuesday, teachers are encouraged to celebrate an HIV-positive transvestite who is suspected of having taken his own life. Wednesday's announcement suggests honoring Elliot Page, a Canadian actress who underwent trans-conversion therapy and had her healthy breasts removed. Thursday and Friday are reserved for celebrations of WNBA athlete Layshia Clarendon, who identifies as nonbinary, and Carl Nassib, an openly gay NFL player.

Lessons for the week include topics like "Introducing Gender" and "Gender Stereotyping" for students in kindergarten through second grade. On Friday, it appears that teachers will have students take a pledge of "allyship," promising to use kind language when talking about others who are different from themselves and to encourage others to be allies.

The toolkit also includes a book list, which features an illustrated book about Harvey Milk, a figure who has been accused of statutory rape. Additionally, there is a glossary from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation that defines terms popular among LGBT activists, such as "gender binary," "non-binary," "cisgender," "pansexual," and "sex assigned at birth."

The document states that the toolkit was created to provide educators with sample lesson plans and activities in adherence to the California FAIR Education Act. However, it does not appear that teachers have the option to not use any of the materials.

Critics argue that while elementary school children in the LAUSD are being exposed to the latest in gender ideology, many are falling behind in basic subjects. Last year, 61% of third-graders did not meet California's standard for English proficiency, and 59% did not meet the standard for math competency. These statistics raise concerns about the prioritization of LGBT education over core academic subjects.

The LAUSD's promotion of LGBT ideology in schools has sparked controversy and debate. Supporters argue that it is important to create inclusive and accepting environments for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

However, critics believe that the focus on these topics at such a young age is inappropriate and may confuse children who are still developing their understanding of themselves and the world around them.
