Kari Lake, a former candidate for Arizona's governorship, has revealed plans to run for the U.S. Senate, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Lake, who was unsuccessful in the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race against then-Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, has disclosed that she will officially launch her campaign at a rally scheduled for October 10.

Lake, a staunch supporter of ex-President Donald Trump, has been vocal about her belief that the gubernatorial election was unfairly taken from her. "We need to get a senator in there who is going to fight back and put America first," Lake stated, as quoted by the Journal.

The Journal also reported that Lake expressed her desire to meet Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and confirmed that she would back him as leader if he is the preferred GOP choice. Lake is expected to engage with fellow Republicans during her visit to Washington D.C. next week. "I'd like to meet them to show them that I'm a very reasonable person who loves my state," she said. It is anticipated that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina will facilitate Lake's visit, as per the Journal.

Lake, who is against abortion, believes that states should have the authority to regulate the matter themselves. She supports her state's 15-week abortion ban but would oppose a federal ban, the Journal reported.

The Journal also noted that Senator Kyrsten Sinema, who switched her registration from Democrat to Independent last year, has not yet declared if she will run for re-election. Earlier this year, Democratic Representative Ruben Gallego announced his candidacy for the Senate seat.

Lake expressed her concern about the potential influence of New York Democrat Chuck Schumer on Arizona's Republicans. "I don't believe that the Republicans in Arizona want to hand over our Senate vote to a New York liberal like Chuck Schumer," she said.

In response to Lake's announcement, Hannah Goss, a spokesperson for Ruben Gallego, criticized Lake's extremist views. "Her extremism should disqualify her from public office—and it will. Again," Goss stated, as quoted by the Journal.
