The scandal has dealt a severe blow to her campaign, as per a poll conducted by Cygnal and reported by the New York Post.
The poll revealed a sharp drop in Gibson's support, from 49.5% to 38.9%, in the wake of the scandal. Her Republican adversary, David Owen, who previously held a mere 4% lead over Gibson, is now in a more advantageous position. Furthermore, Gibson's unfavorability rating has soared from 12.5% to 45.2% among likely District voters.
Aaron Evans, a spokesperson for Owen's campaign, commented on the situation, stating, "It’s no surprise that Ms. Gibson’s polling poorly." He added that Owen is committed to his pragmatic agenda of rejuvenating the economy, reducing crime, and enhancing schools for the future of Virginia families.

Gibson has acknowledged the scandal but has attempted to shift the blame onto Republicans, accusing them of committing a "sex crime" to embarrass her. "This is an illegal invasion of my privacy designed to humiliate me and my family. It won't intimidate me and it won't silence me," Gibson declared. She further accused her political opponents and their Republican allies of being willing to commit a sex crime to attack her and her family, stating that they would stop at nothing to silence women who speak up.
