Tim Scott Voices His Opinion On This California Bill, And Follows It Up With A Promise

The legislation, which could potentially penalize parents in custody battles who fail to affirm their child's transgender identity, was described by Scott as "evil."

The California State Assembly passed the contentious bill on Friday. The legislation, known as AB 957, mandates judges in child custody disputes to take into account whether a parent has acknowledged and affirmed their child's transgender identity. The original version of the bill stipulated that courts must consider each parent's gender-affirming stance towards the child involved in the custody case.

However, an amendment in June expanded the state's definition of parental responsibility for child welfare. The revised bill now requires parents to affirm their child's gender identity to be deemed fit for ensuring "the health, safety, and welfare of the child" in a court of law.

Scott, who is a rising figure within the GOP and the sole Black Republican in the Senate, criticized the bill, stating, "The radical Left is on a mission to make parents less important. They think your kids belong to them." He further pledged to "fight back, put parents back in charge, and protect the next generation of children from this absurdity."

In the previous month, Scott unveiled a plan aimed at empowering parents and safeguarding school children from the "classroom to the locker room to the smartphone." The plan, initially shared with Fox News Digital, exemplifies the Republican party's ongoing efforts to enhance parental control over public schools.

The first element of Scott's "Empower Parents Plan" emphasizes a "family first culture." Scott advocates for the restoration of "American childhood and let girls and boys be girls and boys, not guinea pigs" and to "Save Title IX and women’s sports — if God made you a man, you play sports against other men."

Scott's plan also promises to empower parents by defending their right to be informed about what their children are being taught in school. He pledges to "empower every family the right to opt out of propaganda that attacks their values and religious liberty," and to "break the back of the teachers' unions and enact nationwide school choice," both of which are key tenets of the conservative movement.

Furthermore, Scott aims to provide parents with more control over their children's education, including the choice to send their children to public, private, charter, or STEM schools, or to homeschool. He asserts that he will "replace indoctrination with education. ABC, not CRT."
