Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press," Phillips expressed his admiration for Biden but suggested it was time for him to "pass the torch" to new leadership.
"I would like to see a moderate governor, hopefully from the heartland, from one of the four states that Democrats will need," Phillips stated. He further encouraged figures such as Joe Manchin and Cornel West to consider running, emphasizing that primaries do not undermine the chances of a Democrat returning to the White House.
Meanwhile, Lisa Boothe of Fox News argued that while Democrats might wish to replace Biden, they are wary of Vice President Harris assuming the role. "I saw a recent poll where even 50% of Democrats wanted a different nominee in the 2024 election," Boothe noted on "The Big Weekend Show." She added that the Democratic Party is reluctant to encourage a third-party run, fearing it could jeopardize their chances in the 2024 election.

Joe Concha, co-host of the show, suggested that any attempt to challenge Biden for the nomination from within his party would be a "fool’s errand," especially since the Democratic National Committee has already announced that the president would not participate in debates.

"Joe Biden can run, and Joe Biden can win," Concha asserted, citing a New York Times focus group conducted by Kristen Soltis Anderson. The group, consisting of 12 Biden voters from 2020, unanimously agreed that Biden was not a strong leader and had been disappointing as a president. However, when asked who they would vote for in 2024, all 12 indicated they would still vote for Biden.

"People vote against candidates these days, not for them. And that's what I think the Democrats are banking," Concha added.
The Times also interviewed two independent voters. Donnia, a 62-year-old from Illinois, stated that her vote in the previous election was not for Biden, but against Trump. Similarly, Claudia, a 28-year-old from Florida, said she voted for Biden in 2020 because he was the "lesser of two evils."
