In a recent podcast, self-described liberals Joe Rogan and Bill Maher expressed their disdain for progressive policies, questioning the authenticity of the Black Lives Matter movement, criticizing "woke" politics, and raising concerns about so-called "gender-affirming care" and the dangers of equity versus equality.

During the podcast, Rogan described Maher as a liberal who doesn't toe the line, stating, "You're like a 90s liberal. You're like liberals back when they were more reasonable, before they became leftists." Rogan also noted that nowadays, liberals are expected to subscribe to the most fringe ideas promoted by the left in order to be part of the team.

Maher emphasized the distinction between liberalism and being woke, stating, "You can be woke with all the nonsense that that now implies, but don't say that somehow it’s an extension of liberalism. Because it’s most often actually an undoing of liberalism." He further expressed his belief in a colorblind society, a principle shared by liberals throughout history, including Martin Luther King Jr.

The podcast hosts criticized the woke ideology for prioritizing race above all else, contrasting it with the liberal belief in a colorblind society. Maher even drew a parallel between the woke perspective and the Ku Klux Klan's emphasis on race. He expressed his concern that the woke ideology contradicts the liberal goal of not seeing race at all.

Rogan shifted the conversation to the issues of extreme poverty and crime, highlighting the need for equality rather than equity. He cautioned against the implementation of too many progressive policies, citing the examples of San Francisco and Portland, where lawlessness and rampant shoplifting have become prevalent. Maher chimed in, stating, "Liberalism was never 'shoplifting is progressive.' And we weren't interested in legalizing shoplifting."

The hosts also criticized the defund the police movement, pointing out its unintended consequences. Maher highlighted the rise in crime in Chicago and questioned why the Black Lives Matter movement doesn't seem to address the issue of black-on-black violence. He expressed frustration with the lack of attention given to the high murder rates in the African-American community and called for leaders within the community to address the problem.

The conversation then turned to the topic of genital mutilation and transgender care for minors. Rogan expressed his concern about the labeling of such procedures as "gender-affirming care," referring to them as childhood mutilation. He argued that children are too young to fully understand the permanent consequences of such decisions.

Maher added that the rush of some children wanting to change their gender is driven by trends and social media influence, comparing it to a "TikTok challenge that got out of hand." Both hosts raised concerns about the irreversible nature of puberty blockers and the need for more caution when it comes to medical interventions for minors.
