In an audio recording obtained by Politico, strategist Jeff Roe boasted to donors that the Super PAC was responsible for disseminating opposition research on Ramaswamy. Roe stated, "Everything you read about him is from us...he's not going to go through that very well, and that will get worse for him."
Roe also acknowledged that a strong performance by Ramaswamy in the debate could potentially harm the DeSantis campaign. Never Back Down had previously released a memo outlining DeSantis' strategy for targeting Ramaswamy during the debate. However, the Super PAC declined to comment when approached by Politico.

In response to the revelations, Ramaswamy took to Twitter, expressing his belief that the attacks against him were manufactured. He wrote, "The attacks on me felt manufactured & now we learn that they absolutely were...They're just playing their roles in a badly broken & corrupt political system."
