The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has announced that it possesses approximately 5,400 documents, electronic records, and emails that may reveal President Joe Biden's use of a pseudonym during his tenure as vice president.

This revelation comes in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request made by the Southeastern Legal Foundation (SLF), a nonprofit constitutional legal group. The SLF had specifically requested emails associated with the accounts of JRB Ware, Robin Ware, and Robert L Peters, pseudonyms that Biden was known to have used during his time as vice president.

The SLF has now filed a lawsuit against NARA, demanding the release of these records. The foundation argues that these documents could potentially demonstrate that Biden forwarded government information and discussed government affairs with his son, Hunter Biden, and others.

Kimberly Hermann, General Counsel for the SLF, stated, "All too often, public officials abuse their power by using it for their personal or political benefit. When they do, many seek to hide it. The only way to preserve governmental integrity is for NARA to release Biden's nearly 5,400 emails to SLF and thus, the public. The American public deserves to know what is in them."

The SLF has accused NARA of delaying the release of these records since the FOIA request was filed in June 2022. Despite NARA acknowledging the existence of the records shortly after the request was made, not a single email has been produced thus far.

In a letter dated June 24, 2022, NARA informed Hermann that they had identified approximately 5,138 email messages, 25 electronic files, and 200 pages of potentially responsive records. However, NARA stated that they were currently processing and reviewing FOIA requests that were submitted prior to the SLF's request, and that the foundation's request had been placed in a queue.

Earlier this month, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer demanded unredacted access to these files in a case titled "Email Messages To and/or From Vice President Biden and Hunter Biden related to Burisma and Ukraine." In June, a record was made public that included four emails, but two were withheld in full and the remaining emails were redacted.

One of the released emails, titled "Friday Schedule Card," revealed that on May 27, 2016, Vice President Biden had a call with the then-president of Ukraine. Chairman Comer expressed concern that this document was sent to "Robert L. Peters," a pseudonym that the Committee had identified as belonging to then-Vice President Biden. The Committee also questioned why only Hunter Biden was copied on this email to the Vice President.

As the legal battle between the SLF and NARA continues, the public eagerly awaits the release of these potentially revealing documents, which could shed light on Biden's use of pseudonyms and his communication with his son and others during his time as vice president.
