While the Biden campaign expressed its endorsement of the event, an adviser to Vice President Kamala Harris deemed the move "disrespectful."
The California governor, who is rumored to be considering a presidential run, is slated to debate his Republican counterpart from Florida, with Fox News' Sean Hannity serving as the moderator. Although an exact date has yet to be determined, the anticipation surrounding this event is palpable.

According to NBC News, several Biden advisers voiced concerns about the proposed debate, but acknowledged its acceptability given Newsom's relatively low polling numbers. "What he's doing here is appropriate for a surrogate," one adviser stated. "It would not be appropriate for the President or the Vice President. We're in close touch with him."

The President's reelection campaign also referred to Newsom as "a strong partner and surrogate for the Biden-Harris campaign." Kevin Munoz, a spokesperson for the campaign, emphasized their close coordination on various campaign activities, including fundraising and media engagements. "When he brought the debate idea to us, we endorsed it," Munoz added.
