President Trump faced impeachment by the US House of Representatives for allegedly interfering in the 2020 election by soliciting Ukraine's President Zelensky to investigate Vice President Joe Biden's role in the firing of prosecutor Viktor Shokin.

However, in a recent interview with Brett Baier, Shokin revealed that he was indeed fired at the behest of Biden and under the threat of $1 billion being withheld from Ukraine.

Shokin stated, "I have said repeatedly in my previous interviews that Poroshenko fired me at the insistence of then Vice President, because I was investigating Burisma." He emphasized that there were no complaints against him or his work, but pressure was repeatedly exerted on President Poroshenko, leading to his dismissal.

According to Shokin, Biden acted in his own interests and treated Ukraine as his own backyard, appointing individuals who were suitable for him. Shokin was handling the Burisma case, which warranted special attention due to Hunter Biden's involvement with the energy company and his father's oversight of Ukrainian affairs for the White House. Shokin expressed no doubt that illegal activities were taking place at Burisma, and the investigation had already begun before he became involved.

Furthermore, there is evidence suggesting that Burisma made payments not only to Hunter Biden but also to Joe Biden himself. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene referred to an FBI FD-1023 document from a paid informant, which indicated that Burisma paid $5 million each to the Bidens, totaling $10 million. Greene stated that this bribery was intended to get Shokin fired and end the investigation into Burisma. The informant also noted that the Burisma CEO believed it would take ten years for their misdeeds to be uncovered.

It is important to note that Joe Biden had a close relationship with Burisma. In December 2015, while serving as Vice President, Biden attended a meeting with Burisma executives in Dubai. During the meeting, Hunter Biden received a call from Burisma executive Vadym Pozharskyi, who asked him to "ring your dad." Hunter then spoke to his father about Burisma needing their support. The call was brief and pleasant, and Shokin was fired in March 2016.

Biden himself publicly admitted to withholding Congressionally approved aid until Shokin was fired. He demanded the dismissal of the state prosecutor, Shokin, before releasing the funds. Biden even boasted about this action during a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations, receiving laughs from the audience.

In contrast, Trump, who also had the power to deliver aid to Ukraine, wanted to know if Biden had pressured President Petro Poroshenko to fire Shokin under the threat of withholding $1 billion in Congressionally approved loan guarantees. Trump's phone call with Zelensky on July 25, 2019, prompted the House to accuse him of abuse of power and interference in the 2020 election.

The House alleged that Trump solicited Ukraine's interference in the election by publicly announcing investigations that would benefit his reelection and harm the election prospects of his political opponent, Joe Biden. However, it is worth noting that Biden's involvement in the firing of Shokin was a legitimate concern, as it involved a company in which his son had a financial interest.

The House also claimed that Trump conditioned official acts, such as the promised $391 million in aid to Ukraine and a meeting at the White House, on the public announcements he had requested. However, corruption in Ukraine has long been a concern for both Democrats and Republicans. Biden himself cited prosecutorial corruption as the reason for withholding $1 billion in loan guarantees until Shokin was fired.

Trump's impeachment in December was seen by some as congressional election interference by a Democrat-led House. Investigations into Hunter Biden were allegedly sidelined by officials at the Department of Justice as soon as it became clear that Biden was the apparent Democratic nominee for President.
