President Biden had an uncomfortable encounter with Democratic Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz on Monday during his visit to the state, which is still grappling with the aftermath of the devastating wildfires that claimed the lives of at least 114 people and left hundreds more missing earlier this month.

At the end of a press conference held to assess the wildfire damage in Lahaina on Maui, Schatz, unaware that the microphone was still on, offered Biden a sip of water. However, Biden did not respond and instead walked away in an awkward manner.

While it seemed that Biden heard Schatz, it remains unclear why he did not acknowledge the offer. Fox News Digital has reached out to Schatz's office and the White House for comment on the incident.

Biden's visit to Hawaii comes amidst criticism from both sides of the political spectrum that he has been relatively silent about the situation in Hawaii and has not shown enough support for its residents in the wake of the tragic fire.

The criticism began when Biden, who was on vacation at a Delaware beach, was asked about the rising death toll in Hawaii and responded with a "no comment." This remark was widely condemned as dismissive of the immense challenges faced by the people of Hawaii.

On Sunday, Maui County and the Maui Police Department confirmed the number of fatalities, but the final count could rise as investigators continue to search the affected area.
