Brandon Herrera, a renowned YouTube personality and firearms manufacturer, has announced his intention to run for Congress, challenging the incumbent Republican representative of southern Texas.

Herrera, the proprietor of The AK Guy, a North Carolina-based company that produces a variety of Kalashnikov firearms and related accessories, has amassed a following of over 2.8 million subscribers on his YouTube channel.

Herrera's political ambitions were unveiled at the Young Americans for Liberty's Revolution 2023 conference. He plans to contest the primary against Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas' 23rd District, a vast region stretching from San Antonio to El Paso. Herrera later confirmed his political aspirations on YouTube, stating that he has "legally filed" the necessary documents to challenge Gonzales, whom he criticized as a "weak politician who voted for gun control."

As anticipated, Herrera's campaign will prioritize the protection of gun rights. "I will never vote for gun control," he pledged, further promising to "do everything in my authority to weaken the ATF, and I will challenge ATF Director [Steven] Dettelbach every time." Herrera had previously testified at a congressional hearing about the potential threats the ATF poses to ordinary citizens.

However, Herrera's campaign is not solely focused on gun rights. He also intends to combat digital censorship and Big Tech, safeguard the First Amendment right to free speech, and secure the southern border. He criticized Rep. Gonzales for failing his constituents by voting against Republicans and supporting amnesty, given that Texas' 23rd district "has more border fronted with Mexico than any district in the country."

Describing himself as a "libertarian-leaning" individual, Herrera expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of America. "America was never supposed to be the country that gave you everything you always wanted," he stated. "It was simply a place that gave you the freedom and opportunity to chase those things for yourself."

Herrera aims to restore "constitutionally guaranteed rights" by challenging "incumbent politicians" like Gonzales "who vote time and time again against the interests of the American people without fear of losing their positions."

Leveraging his celebrity status as a niche content creator, Herrera has adopted the well-known anti-Biden chant "Let's Go Brandon" as his campaign slogan. Bunker Branding is already marketing LGB T-shirts on Herrera's behalf.

The Texas Republican primary election is scheduled for March 5, 2024, also known as "Super Tuesday."
