Blue Dog Coalition Morphs Into 'Antifascist Rural' Powerhouse, Sending Shockwaves Through The Party

In a recent revelation, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), alongside Reps. Jared Golden (D-ME) and Mary Peltola (D-AK), announced their plans to transform the Blue Dog Coalition into an "antifascist rural" group.

This announcement was made during a "Postcarding and Conversation" event last month, as reported by Fox News.

"Jared, Mary, and I actually just took over the Blue Dogs," Glusenkamp Perez stated. She further elaborated, "They basically lost some of their membership before we came in, and we are sort of rebuilding it into, Mary, Jared, and I, are rebuilding it into this sort of antifascist rural [group]."

Historically, the Blue Dog Coalition has been a centrist group within the Democratic party. As per the House Democrats website, the coalition claims to "represent the center of the political spectrum, appealing to the mainstream values of the American public."

The group is committed to "pursuing fiscally-responsible policies, ensuring a strong national defense for our country, and transcending party lines to get things done for the American people."

In a conversation with the Washington Post, the trio expressed their desire for the Democrats to return to being a "big tent party," thereby expanding the party's reach. Golden explained their objective to grow the group, stating, “I think it’s about creating a caucus where you’re free to represent your district and still be a Democrat because of the shared values that we still have with everyone else in our caucus, despite our differences.”

Gluesenkamp Perez emphasized their commitment to their communities and values, stating, “I think it’s also important, like, we are not trying to win a popularity contest. We are trying to represent our communities and our values.”

The Republican National Congressional Committee has marked all three representatives as targets for the upcoming House seats. This development follows the departure of 15 members from the group earlier this year due to internal disagreements on the group's expansion strategy.

Antifa, an abbreviation for antifascists, is a far-left organization known for its chaotic and violent methods to achieve political goals. Earlier this year, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced her intention to introduce legislation to classify Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization.

At present, the Blue Dog Coalition comprises 10 registered House Democrats.
