Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, known for his penchant for revenge, has centered his White House campaign on a personal vendetta against former President Donald Trump.

Christie has launched a relentless assault on Trump, mocking him for federal charges and comparing him to a "stupid Corleone" involved in hiding classified government documents. Despite their previous friendship and alliance, Christie's attacks on Trump stem from being passed over for a top position in the Trump administration.

Christie hopes that his continuous criticism will erode Trump's support base, but political experts remain skeptical, viewing his actions as part of a pattern of seeking political revenge.

Since the launch of his campaign two months ago, Christie has criticized Trump for his behavior, accused him of committing federal crimes, and condemned his support for Russian President Vladimir Putin despite the atrocities in Ukraine. While Christie has seen a slight increase in the polls in New Hampshire, climbing from 1% to as high as 8%, he still trails far behind Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Despite his efforts, Christie's relentless attacks on Trump are met with skepticism, as many believe he is merely seeking revenge, as he has done in the past with other politicians such as Mitt Romney, Rob Astorino, and Scott Walker.

Christie does not deny that his main goal is to take down Trump. He openly admits that he wants to win and does not want Trump to win. This desire for revenge is not new for Christie. Over a decade ago, critics suspected that Christie's embrace and praise of President Obama following Superstorm Sandy was a way to punish Mitt Romney for not choosing him as his running mate. Christie denied these accusations, but they highlight his history of seeking retribution.

In 2014, Christie faced similar accusations when he allegedly withheld financial support for Scott Walker's reelection campaign in Wisconsin due to both men having aspirations for the 2016 White House. Rob Astorino also accused Christie of withholding funds from his New York gubernatorial campaign, suggesting that Christie was in league with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo following the "Bridgegate" scandal.

Christie was never directly linked to the lane closure incident, but three top aides were convicted of federal conspiracy charges. Despite these allegations, Christie defended his decisions, stating that he invested in candidates who could win and that he backed longshot candidates who went on to win, such as Larry Hogan, Charlie Baker, and Bruce Rauner.

Christie's relationship with Trump has been tumultuous. During the 2016 GOP presidential race, the two traded insults on the debate stage, but Christie shocked the political world by dropping out and endorsing Trump. However, he turned against Trump shortly before the election when the infamous "grab them by the pussy" tape was released. Christie called the remarks "completely indefensible," which put him at odds with Trump.

Despite this, Christie later reconnected with Trump during his White House term, serving as an adviser and defending him on talk shows. However, their relationship soured again after the 2020 presidential election when Christie advised Trump to accept defeat and concede to President Biden. The two began trading insults, with Christie now labeling Trump a liar and a coward who will lose to Biden if he runs for the GOP ticket in the future.
