Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has emphasized the importance of securing the U.S. border, stating that it is a matter of "humanitarian conscience."

In a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Kennedy made it clear that the reason for strong border control is not rooted in xenophobia, bigotry, or hate, but rather in a sense of humanitarian duty.

Kennedy highlighted the bipartisan agreement that the current humanitarian crisis resulting from the relinquishment of immigration policy to drug cartels is unacceptable. He called for the restoration of control, stating, "We need to take back control."

Kennedy pointed out that criminal cartels have intertwined drugs, immigration, and human trafficking into a lucrative multi-billion dollar enterprise. He also criticized the Biden administration's policies, claiming that they have exacerbated the situation, resulting in an out-of-control border where immigration is being managed by cartels rather than the government.

Kennedy outlined his proposed approach to address the issue, stating, "Our policy will be first, to get the border under control. Second, to work with other countries to stem the tide of migrants. Third, to fully fund and prioritize the administrative infrastructure for lawful, orderly immigration to this country."

To combat the cartels' influence, Kennedy proposed utilizing a combination of surveillance technology and physical barriers, such as cameras, motion detectors, lights, and where necessary, physical barriers.

Meanwhile, polling suggests that President Joe Biden is in a strong position to defeat Kennedy and Marianne Williamson in the Democratic presidential primary.

In response to the border crisis, Republican Representative Chip Roy of Texas is urging his colleagues to withhold funding for the Department of Homeland Security until steps are taken to address the issue. Roy stated in a letter, "No border security, no funding."

He emphasized that no member of Congress should support funding for a federal agency that is at odds with their state and its people. Roy stressed the moral obligation to protect states, the nation, and particularly the migrant children who are suffering abuse as a result of the ongoing disaster at the southern border.
