Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican candidate for president, dismissed the idea of selecting Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a running mate.

However, he proposed that the Democratic figure could be well-suited to address issues within the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

DeSantis made these remarks in response to a question from Clay Travis of Outkick. Travis inquired whether DeSantis would consider Kennedy as a potential running mate. While Kennedy is currently running in the Democratic presidential primary, DeSantis is competing in the GOP primary.

DeSantis acknowledged that he agrees with Kennedy on certain matters, particularly regarding Dr. Anthony Fauci and the alleged corruption within health bureaucracies. However, the governor noted that Kennedy's stance on other issues would not align with the political right.

Specifically, DeSantis highlighted Kennedy's liberal views on certain topics. For instance, Kennedy expressed disagreement with the Supreme Court's recent ruling that prohibits colleges from considering an applicant's race in admissions decisions. Kennedy argued that race-based policies, such as affirmative action, are necessary to counteract the effects of historical racism and to provide opportunities for marginalized individuals.

In response to Kennedy's positions, DeSantis suggested that a President could assign him to address concerns within the FDA or the CDC.

Currently, DeSantis trails far behind former President Donald Trump in the GOP presidential primary. Trump maintains a significant lead over other candidates in the field.
